Cognition for Children:
The process for children of developing martial art skill is the same as for other skill. Students have to be still and focused and listen to the instruction or idea.
The idea has to be communicated using child appropriate tone, language, descriptions and demonstration. Students then have to make sense of the idea and in a martial art class, express their understanding in physical actions (sometimes of a very subtle nature). This physical expression is then refined through repetition.
Our programme recognises the challenge this process presents to young students and actively encourages their engagement with it. The language and descriptions we use together with the child appropriate exercises and supportive environment we foster encourages the cognitive function.
