Mission and Vision
Vision
Traditionally, the emperors of China and Japan actively sought out the highest quality martial arts instructors and trained diligently. From our perspective an emperor with armies and personal guards at his disposal had, or so it appears, little need for such training so, and at first glance this may seem a strange preoccupation. However, traditionally martial arts is understood to use combat as an arena to explore and deepen one's understanding of reality- not primarily as a method of fighting.
Emperors did not need to know how to fight but this deeper knowledge of reality, contributed to an enlightened administration and a safe, prosperous realm. Training eventually formed part of the royal curriculum, as the physical expression of the underlying philosophies used to describe reality.
As such, MAE is the modern successor to the martial art school in the tradition of Yang Lu Chan (personal tutor to the emperor of China) and Yagyū Munenori (fencing instructor to the Shogun).
MAE, through the medium of martial arts kindles and fans a burning desire for knowledge and self cultivation, for the benefit of the practitioner, society and the world.
Mission
M.A.E's mission is to provide the highest quality martial art training as an effective method of physical, mental, social and emotional education for the benefit to the practitioner and society. Our focus is on children and youth to develop an enthusiastic attitude to physical exercise and martial arts as a gateway for a lifetime of mindful, physical culture and spiritual enquiry.
